Agrifirm: Low carbon crops

agrifirm logo white

Co-creating a sustainable food chain

Agrifirm is using its central role in agriculture to cut emissions directly on farms. The project connects farmers with food companies and agri-buyers, generating verified Scope 3 reductions through low-carbon practices.

2025 Pilot (Netherlands)
  • Crops: winter wheat, summer barley, potatoes
  • Scale: 10–30 farmers
  • Verified reductions certified and sold to buyers, ensuring the transition is co-financed across the value chain.
Objectives
  • Deliver real, measurable GHG reductions in line with the Proba Standard, SBTi, and GHG Protocol.
  • Support farmers in adopting low-carbon practices while maintaining yields.
  • Share costs and benefits fairly across the supply chain.
Expected Impact (Pilot)
  • Winter Wheat: ~40% footprint reduction
  • Summer Barley: ~50%
  • Potatoes: ~10%
  • ~550 tCO₂e total reduction
