Search # Certified Scope 3 reductions across Agrifirm's arable supply chains 7 Jul 2025 ![Picture of Proba](https://proba.earth/hs-fs/hubfs/Subheading%20(7).png?width=40&name=Subheading%20(7).png) [Proba](https://proba.earth/probas-blog/author/proba) ![](https://proba.earth/hubfs/Linkedin%20post%20graphics%20(26).png) [Agrifirm Plant-Based Solutions](https://www.agrifirm.com/) is taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across arable agricultural supply chains for their farmers.  The aim of the initiative is straightforward: help farmers produce food with a lower carbon footprint, using practical tools that can scale. | Agrifirm, the Dutch cooperative has nearly 10,000 member farmers across the Netherlands, and operates globally as the Royal Agrifirm Group. | | --- | Tackling Scope 3 emissions This program brings farmers, suppliers, and buyers — like potato processors, maltsters, and wheat mills — together to work toward shared emission reduction goals. It’s built on trusted frameworks, like the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the GHG Protocol, so everyone can speak the same language when it comes to emissions. And thanks to Proba’s proven [methodologies](https://proba.earth/methodologies) and processes, the results are solid and ready to stand up to scrutiny. ## A mix of simple and advanced interventions Some solutions are easy to implement, others take more effort. Agrifirm’s approach includes: - [Switching to low-carbon fertilizers](https://proba.earth/proba_low_carbon_fertilizer) - [Using controlled-release fertilizers](https://proba.earth/crf_methodology) - [Adding nitrogen stabilizers (inhibitors)](https://proba.earth/nitrogen_stabilizers_methodology) - Running machinery on renewable diesel (HVO) By offering a mix of low- and higher-cost options, the program gives farmers more flexibility to start where it makes sense for them — without making the process too expensive or complex. ## Easy monitoring, less hassle Tracking emissions is often one of the biggest hurdles in these types of projects. To make it easier, Agrifirm’s digital platform for advisors and farmers will be connected to [Proba's platform](https://proba.earth/registry) to support MRV processes. That means no extra data entry, no manual reporting — just using the information farmers already collect. ## Better value for farmers and buyers Agrifirm has committed to building a more sustainable food chain, where both its farmer members and buyers play an active role. This initiative makes that possible by enabling [insetting](https://proba.earth/insetting): verified emission reductions achieved within the supply chain. It’s about building the foundation, testing the approach, and making sure everything works on the ground. But the bigger picture is already in motion.
