Nitrogen fertilizers are essential for crop yields, but they’re also a major source of nitrous oxide (N₂O). This methodology focuses on nitrogen stabilizers: compounds added to fertilizers to reduce nitrogen losses and cut emissions.
The methodology makes it possible to issue emission reduction certificates for agricultural projects that use nitrogen stabilizers, such as nitrification and urease inhibitors. These certificates can then attract carbon finance to scale up the adoption of stabilizers in agricultural systems.
We’re inviting stakeholders and experts to review and provide feedback on our new methodology. Your input will help ensure this methodology is scientifically robust and practically applicable.
Public consultation is open between 03 April 2025 to 03 May 2025 (30 days).
